Phoebe always enjoying life and her family!

1 tall can Pork n Beans (any brand)
1 med Onion Chopped
1/3 C Brown Sugar
3 TBSP Ketchup
2 TBSP Brown Mustard
1 Jar DARK Molasses (Green Bottle)
½ pound Bacon. Chopped into pieces (RAW)

Drain Pork & Beans (be sure to fish out the piece of bacon that comes in the can. Throw that away)
Pour into baking vessel … Mom used a metal bowl most of the time
Add the onion, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, molasses, raw bacon. Stir.

Bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour, uncovered.
Will be a deep maroon/burgundy color. Goes great with Meatloaf or pork.

Note from Tina:

When I read this recipe, I hear it in Debbie’s lively, enthusiastic voice! That makes me smile. I was honored to have spent time with Debbie in Milwaukee, her hometown, during The lovely Barbara Vey Readers Appreciation Weekend. Debbie generously gave my sister and I a locals tour of the beautiful city after the event was over!

(Here’s Debbie -L with my sister Jo Ann. My sis clearly is the southern lady freezing on our tour in Milwaukee!)

Debbie not only shared wonderful stories of Milwaukee, but of her family too! Oh...what fun things we learned of their humor, spunk and love for one another! I hope to meet them one day. I know I will like them as much as I like a Debbie!

Thanks for sharing your mom’s recipe, the photos of Phoebe, as well as your hometown and family stories!
